USAFV MOTTO CONTEST

We are not changing our name, but we are looking for a new catch phrase that says who we are, what we stand for, and what we do all in one. It needs to be positive, catchy, effective, modern, uplifting, short, and "cool.”

We are looking for a slogan or motto that will inspire others to join our efforts in preventing violence through education on healthy relationships and community resources, and that also promotes peace, kindness, and justice for our community and world.

Our goal is to help promote healthy lifestyles and relationships by offering resources, education, and referrals when needed, and to assist survivors in their endeavors to live fuller, happier, and more peaceful lives.

We wish to draw people closer to our hope and vision for justice and change, and a world free from violence.

Help us find a motto that expresses what USAFV is, and what we do. We think it should be fairly short, easy to remember, and it should promote the idea that a job where you help people is, in our opinion, the COOLEST job in the world.

We are offering a $100 REWARD TO THE WINNER!

Please email, mail, call, fax or post to any of the following:

“Choose Respect”Update

Hello all – the “Choose Respect” potluck USAFV held last night was a wonderful success.
About 30 people, including staff and board, attended, and there were five speakers. The food was excellent, the room was decorated beautifully, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and really take the issues discussed seriously. I noticed that most people hung around for quite a while after the speakers finished and after eating, which is always the sign of a successful event.
IMHO it was such a success that I think we should consider doing a potluck every April, since it is Child Abuse Awareness Month, Elder Abuse Awareness Month, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
We will of course be sending out thank you notes to all the speakers and all those who helped out in various ways…look for some pictures later…
Thanks very much to all the staff who helped to put this together: Karen Pilande, Holly Wood, Katherine Mears, and especially Jennifer Blair, who truly spearheaded the event. You all did an awesome job, and people really enjoyed themselves.

Our Hope

USAFV is excited to be online. We wanted to create a way to reach out to those in rural communities who either do not have shelters or resources readily available or aren't interested in making their struggle with abuse public. Our hope is that through this blog we can open up dialogue, provide information, answer questions and inspire, empower and uplift women as far as we can reach. With a wealth of positive and enlightening information coming from both USAFV and bloggers themselves. Our hope is that this will be a place where women can speak freely, openly and from their hearts about the abusive lives they have been in,are presently in or hope never to be in.Whatever it may be,we would like this to be a place where sharing advice, stories and encouragement will take place between friends who follow our blog. This site is for those in small villages and towns who are either afraid to come forward or are not yet ready. For all women who have been victims of sexual or domestic abuse or are secondary survivors of abuse. This site is for any women who has ideas of how to prevent abuse in any or all forms. In addition, for men who support women and are for changing warped "masculinity" ideals or have supportive opinions and solutions for change. We understand that rural Alaska makes it difficult for maintaining privacy and wanting to remain anonymous with such personal matters. We respect privacy requests and think this is a great option for these communities and individuals.Through this blog you can be as open or as anonymous as you like.Use your real name or make up a user-name that inspires you to speak out, until you are ready to put a face to your name!Let's get started and Speak freely!!! ** We do however ask this not to be a male bashing blog but one of stories and feedback, ideas and resolutions encouragement, healing and change.
